"Camel Jam at the Edge of the Sahara, Cairo"

I took the reference photos for this painting while visiting the Great Pyramids in Cairo. I was so taken by the colors of the camel's blankets and riders, et.al. that I decided I would paint this 'traffic jam of camels' when I returned home. There is nothing developed west of the pyramids, as belief is this is the land of the dead, and many burial tombs from ancient time surround the west side of the Great Pyramids. Look for more paintings from our travels to the Mediterranean - only weeks before the uprising occured in Egypt. I felt blessed to be at home when this occurred.
